The GEICO HUE Design System established foundational standards for typography, color, spacing, and scalable UI components, serving as the single source of truth for designers and developers across platforms. Our mission was to drive system awareness, increase adoption, and elevate product consistency enterprise-wide.
I partnered closely with UX and Product teams across multiple GEICO business units to provide implementation guidance, governance, and best practices—ensuring alignment with system standards. I also led the design and evolution of new elements, components, and interaction patterns within the system to support emerging product needs.
To reinforce adoption and quality, we implemented a usability scoring framework that evaluated product teams on proper component consumption and adherence to system standards.
Teams received higher scores for correct implementation, while misuse or deviation from approved components resulted in lower scores—creating accountability and measurable system compliance.
Design Tokens
I designed and implemented the design token library, establishing a centralized, scalable repository for all visual and interaction properties across the system. This token framework ensured long-term sustainability, enabled consistency at scale, and streamlined system-wide updates for both designers and developers—reducing redundancy and improving cross-platform efficiency.
Key Features
-
Intuitive Naming & Structure: Developed a clear, scalable naming and organizational strategy that made token adoption seamless for both design and engineering teams.
-
Unified Color System: Created a consolidated light and dark mode color palette with enhanced contrast ratios to meet accessibility standards and improve usability.
-
Spacing & Sizing Tokens: Defined standardized sizing, spacing, and padding tokens to maintain consistent layout behavior across components, breakpoints, and screen sizes.
-
Experience-Based Theming: Designed experience-specific themes that allowed HUE components to transition fluidly between customer-facing and insurance agent workflows without duplicating components.
